Tiara Rushing - Principal

As a vital member of the AMS family, Tiara has made a profound impact as a dedicated educator, teaching Computer Science, ELA intervention, and kindergarten at Title 1 schools. Her hands-on experience and deep understanding of our scholars' needs make her uniquely qualified to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for all. Tiara began her academic journey as a first-generation college student in the Bridges to Baccalaureate Program, where she conducted research on Type I Diabetes. After earning her biology degree, she returned to education, where her passion for empowering students truly flourished. Throughout her career, Tiara has been driven by her desire to bridge gaps and connect parents, scholars, and staff, solidifying her role as a leader in our community. Outside of her professional life, Tiara is an Arizona native, military spouse, and mother of three. She enjoys spending quality time with her family, gardening, and diving into her DIY projects. |

Mr. Flanders was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ. He has been part of the Maryvale community for as long as he can remember, and even graduated from West Phoenix High School right down the road. He met his wife in a creative writing class at Phoenix College. Together they have three sons, as well as three foster daughters. His six children range from a year and a half, to 18. Mr. Flanders has almost 20 years of experience in Education, including special education, early childhood education, post-secondary education, opportunity youth, etc. FUN FACTS/HOBBIES
